The invention relates to a method for the production of defect-free calibrated steel bars and to the assembly used for same. The inventive method combines a drawing/calibration operation with a crack-control phase and a subsequent mechanical stripping operation comprising chip removal, prior to the cutting of the bars. In this way, the value of the calibrated crack-detection depth corresponds to the surface defects on the bar and is slightly less than the stripping depth of the subsequent successive bar-stripping phase, such that defective bars are removed automatically.
