An apparatus (162) for establishing a voice call to a PSTN (140) extension(142) for a networked (150) client (102) computer, androuting the voice call off the network (150), is provided. In the firstembodiment, the apparatus (162) comprises a storage medium havingstored therein a plurality of programming instructions coupled to an executionunit to execute the plurality of programming instructionsto implement a set of communication services facilitating the establishment ofthe voice call to the PSTN (140) extension (142). The setof communication services include services for receiving a request from thenetworked (150) client (102) computer requesting the voicecall, determining the PSTN (140) extension (142) and controlling a computertelephony interface to route the voice call from the packetswitched network (150) to the PSTN (140) extension (142).
