The invention relates to methods for characterising and/or for detecting differentiation stages of Candida cells, methods for detecting a Candida infection in a biological sample, the thioredoxin-peroxidase of Candida, antibodies for controlling the thioredoxin-peroxidase, diagnostic and pharmaceutical compositions containing the thioredoxin-peroxidase or antibodies for controlling the same, a kit for identifying the thioredoxin-peroxidase, the use of a nucleic acid coding for the thioredoxin-peroxidase, or thioredoxin-peroxidase for producing a diagnostic or pharmaceutical composition, and the use of an antibody for controlling thioredoxin-peroxidase for detecting differentiation stages of Candida cells and/or a Candida infection, and for producing a diagnostic or pharmaceutical composition.
