Metal specimen hydrogen content determination involves measuring an applied alternating voltage frequency at minimal voltage/current phase difference. The hydrogen content of a metal specimen is determined by: (a) simultaneously applying an alternating voltage to the specimen and supplying hydrogen to at least one specimen side provided with a proton conductive solid electrolyte; and (b) gradually altering the alternating voltage frequency over a certain range, and establishing the frequency at which the voltage and current phase difference is minimal from the relationship between the applied voltage and the resulting current passing through the specimen, as a characteristic parameter for determination of the time for hydrogen migration through the specimen. An Independent claim is also included for measuring equipment for carrying out the above process.
