The method involves measuring pressure oscillations and/or thermal release oscillations in the combustion system (15), filtering, delaying and amplifying the measurement signal and modulating the fuel flow to or the combustion air for the combustion system according to the resulting signal. The modulation is carried out at a sub-harmonic of a dominant instability frequency in the combustion system.
