The method involves placing a restraint part (5) comprising a cylindrical cavity (6), from a side that is towards a metallic part (1) e.g. jet engine flange, during a friction welding operation. A metallic bar (3) is introduced inside a burn-through (2) of the part (1) for friction welding. The part (5) has a melting temperature greater than that of materials comprised in the part (1) and the metallic bar. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a metallic part that is utilized in a friction plug welding method (B) a maintenance part that is utilized in a friction plug welding method.
