PURPOSE: A device and a method are provided to accurately detect the residual battery capacity by reflecting the charging/discharging frequency and temperature change, and achieve improved use convenience by displaying the residual battery capacity in time information. CONSTITUTION: A device comprises a charging/discharging battery(100) for storing current through charging and outputting current through discharging; a protection unit(110) for charging/discharging the battery, measuring voltages, counting charging/discharging frequency, and detecting an internal temperature by the change of resistance value; a digital converting unit(120) for detecting voltages, charging/discharging frequency, and temperature through the protection unit, and converting the detected information into digital data; a controller(130) for analyzing data of the battery input from the digital converting unit, and controlling each unit; a mapping memory unit(140) for outputting a formula of discharge characteristics curve in accordance with the temperature data of the battery applied from the controller; a processing unit(150) for calculating a residual time from the voltage and charging/discharging frequency of the battery and the formula of discharge characteristics curve; and a display(160) for displaying the residual time data applied from the processing unit.
