PURPOSE: A protein inhibiting apoptotic protease activating factor-1(Apaf-1) medicated activation is provided, thereby treating or preventing diseases caused by over-activation of Apaf-1 or under-activation of Apaf-1. CONSTITUTION: The isolated protein APIP inhibiting Apaf-1 medicated activation comprises the amino acid sequence with a more than 80% or 90% homology to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:2. The isolated protein APIP2 inhibiting Apaf-1 medicated activation comprises the amino acid sequence with a more than 80% or 90% homology to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:4. A gene encoding the protein APIP has the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:1. A gene encoding the protein APIP2 has the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:3. A vector containing the APIP gene or APIP2 gene is provided. A host cell transformed with the vector is provided. The method for producing the protein APIP or APIP2 comprises culturing the transformed host cell and purifying the protein APIP or APIP2.
