PURPOSE: To provide a water softener which repeats use of an ion exchange resin with regenerating the ion exchange resin at the same time by using an ion exchange membrane and the ion exchange resin, thereby not requiring a periodical regeneration process and providing good regeneration efficiency. CONSTITUTION: The water softener comprises a housing (10), an ion exchange part (20), a pair of electrode plates (30,31) and valves (40,41). The housing is hollow and has a water inlet (61) connected to a raw water pipe (50) and a water outlet (62) connected to a water outlet pipe (51). The ion exchange part has a pair of ion exchange membranes (21,22) in a longitudinal direction of the housing, the ion exchange membrane being filled with an ion exchange resin (23) to produce soft water from water flown in through the water inlet of the housing and discharge the soft water through the water outlet. The electrode plates are respectively equipped at both sides of the ion exchange part and regenerate the ion exchange resin. The valves are respectively equipped at the raw water pipe and the water outlet pipe to communicate the raw water with the soft water or isolate the raw water from the soft water.
