PURPOSE: A system for removing coating layers from an optical fiber including an outer coating layer having a heat deflection temperature higher than a heat deflection temperature of an inner coating layer and a controlling method thereof are provided to remove easily the coating layers from the optical fiber having plural coating layers by using a non-contact method. CONSTITUTION: A housing is used for forming a sealing space in a coating layer removal process. A heating unit(32,34,36) generates heat to remove a coating layer of an optical fiber. A temperature sensor(40) is used for sensing a temperature of the heating unit. A blower(22) is used for transferring the generated heat to the optical fiber. A transfer unit inserts the optical fiber into the inside of the housing and draws the optical fiber without the coating layer from the housing. A control unit(100) controls a driving point of the blower, controls a heating state of the heating unit according to a sensed temperature, and controls an elevating operation of the transfer unit. A power supply(80) is used for supplying the power to the heating unit, the blower, the transfer unit, and the control unit.
