PURPOSE: Thermophilic arabinose isomerase and its application for bioconversion of tagatose from galactose are provided, which enzyme has improved heat resistance, so that tagatose can be mass-produced at high temperature. CONSTITUTION: The thermophilic arabinose isomerase derived from Bacillus thermoglucosidasius(KCTC 1828) has the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:4. A gene encoding the thermophilic arabinose isomerase has the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:3. The method for producing the thermophilic arabinose isomerase comprises transforming a microorganism with a recombinant expression vector containing the thermophilic arabinose isomerase gene of SEQ ID NO:3, and culturing the transformed microorganism. The method for producing tagatose from galactose comprises using the thermophilic arabinose isomerase.
