PURPOSE: A separator for a lithium polymer battery is provided, which contains a fine porous membrane coated with a mixture of a gel forming polymer, a first solvent, and a second solvent. CONSTITUTION: The separator contains the fine porous membrane coated with the mixture of the gel forming polymer, the first solvent, and the second solvent, wherein the first solvent has stronger volatility than the second solvent and the second solvent is a pore forming agent of the gel forming polymer. The gel forming polymer is selected from polyvinylidene fluoride, polyurethane, polyethylene oxide, polypropylene oxide, polyacrylonitrile, polyacryl amide, polymethyl acrylate, and etc. The first solvent is selected from tetrahydrofuran, methyl ethyl ketone, acetone, and their mixture. And the second solvent is selected from butanol, propanol, isopropanol, and their mixture.
