PURPOSE: A user-based call waiting service method is provided to effectively prevent an important call from being missed or to prevent the concentration on the present telephone conversation from being dispersed by registering desired subscribers in order to selectively provide a call waiting service to the registered subscribers only. CONSTITUTION: If a call for the first mobile terminal arrives from the third mobile terminal when the first and second mobile terminals are in the middle of telephone conversation(304), a calling-side MSC checks whether the first mobile terminal is busy(306). If the first mobile terminal is busy, the calling-side MSC searches an HLR to check whether the third mobile terminal is a subscriber registered in a selective call waiting service(310,312). If it is judged that the third mobile terminal is a registered subscriber, the calling-side MSC creates a busy call waiting signal tone and forwards it to the first mobile terminal through a mobile network(316).
