PURPOSE: A method for manufacturing anode material for a secondary battery by activating the surface of carbon nonofibers is provided to increase charge storage ratio per unit mass, transporting capability and life of the battery. CONSTITUTION: The anode material for a nickel-carbon nanofiber secondary battery is obtained by the method comprising the steps of: heat treating carbon nanofibers under ambient and oxidative atmosphere at 200-500 deg.C for 1-3 hours to purify them; ball milling the carbon nanofibers by incorporating 10-40 V% of steel balls and 90-60 V% of carbon nanofibers and rotating them for 1-3 hours to activate the surface; and performing nickel electroless plating of the surface-activated carbon nanofibers in the presence of 10-30 g/l of nickel sulfate under pH 4-5 at 70-90 deg.C for 0.5-2 hours to improve electroconductivity of the surface.
