PURPOSE: An image forming apparatus and a method for controlling the same are provided to economically consume a developing agent, thereby reducing cost for maintaining the developing agent. CONSTITUTION: An image forming apparatus has a developing roller(12), a supply roller(20b) applying a developing agent to the developing roller, and a pumping roller(20a) supplying the developing agent to the supply roller. A current detector(32) detects an amount of a current flowing between the supply roller and the developing roller. A control unit(36) controls driving speed of the pumping roller corresponding to the detected current amount. A current comparing unit(34) compares the detected current amount with a reference current amount for outputting a signal.
