PURPOSE: A method and a system for reducing power consumption of a wireless modem used in a wireless telemetry system are provided to reduce the power consumption by operating the wireless modem only during a predetermined time. CONSTITUTION: A system for reducing power consumption of a wireless modem used in a wireless telemetry system for transferring measurement data through a wireless communication network, and checking that data in a remote place, comprises a meter(112,122) for measuring the utility usage, storing that as measurement data, and transferring the measurement data through the wireless communication network; a wireless modem(114,124) for receiving the measurement data, operating or stopping an interface communication module by checking the predetermined measurement time, and transferring the measurement data through the wireless communication network; a repeater(130) for receiving the measurement data, transferring that into an arranged path, and performing a data conversion function; a telemetry server(150) for transferring a measurement signal to the wireless modem, receiving and storing the measurement data, and controlling the wireless modem.
