PURPOSE: A drum-type washing machine and a method for controlling the same are provided to increase the use efficiency of detergent by wetting both upper and lower parts of the laundry with a detergent solution and to disperse effectively the detergent solution to the upper part of the laundry by injecting the detergent solution after forming a washing hole. CONSTITUTION: A drum-type washing machine is composed of a fixed tub(10); a rotary tub(11) installed movably in the fixed tub; and a detergent melting unit installed outside the fixed tub to dissolve the detergent and water in the bottom side of the fixed tub. One end of the detergent melting unit is connected with the inside of the fixed tub. The detergent melting unit comprises a detergent melting pipe(20) of which one end is connected to the inside of the fixed tub and the other end is extended outward and a pump(18) for pumping the water and the detergent on the bottom side of the fixed tub to the detergent melting pipe.
