Preventive and therapeutic composition against kainic acid-induced neurotoxicity in hippocampus containing ginsenosides

PURPOSE: A composition containing ginsenoside separated from Ginseng Radix is used as a useful agent for enhancing learning and/or memory in humans and a useful prevention and treatment agent for temporal lobe epilepsy, compulsive disorder and seizures. CONSTITUTION: A composition for prevention and treatment of death and injury of pyramidal cells of hippocampus contains ginsenoside separated from Ginseng Radix. The ginsenoside inhibits death and injury of pyramidal cells being at the CA1 and CA3 region of hippocampus. The ginsenoside is orally or non-orally administered in an amount of 50 to 150mg/kg of body weight, preferably 50 to 100mg/kg of body weight.
