The hard disk drive is disclosed, in contact with the drive disc and the spindle motor has a lock actuator capable of locking. The locking actuator can have a shape memory alloy element causing the plunger which is in contact with the locking disk when the lost power to the drive. In the locking position the actuator in particular can minimize the impact of shock and vibration loads during shipping and feeding of the hard disk drive. A shape memory alloy element is heated when the hard disk drive to receive power. The shape memory alloy element is heated the plunger away from the disc allows the disk drive to operate.
