The installation of a low-floor middle part M in the car body W of a high-floor rail vehicle is carried out in the following steps: DOLLAR A a) picking and clamping the support structure of the car body W at least three receiving points of the support structure T before and behind a central support structure portion in a rigid frame; DOLLAR A b) removing all non-bearing floor parts in the region of the central support structure section; DOLLAR A c) insert new side rail sections in the support structure of the car body W below the central support structure section; DOLLAR A d) cutting out of the central support structure section and the existing wall and roof areas in the middle part M of the car body W; DOLLAR A e) if necessary, inserting one or more other new side rail sections and of cross members in the support structure of the middle part M of the car body W; DOLLAR A f) arranging and inserting new floor, wall and roof areas B, WA, D in the middle part M of the car body W on the new side member portions of the support structure; DOLLAR A g) releasing the clamping of the receiving points of the support structure of the rigid frame.
