The vehicle seat has a folding backrest (3) and a seat cushion frame which is adjustable relative to the seat frame (2). A lock (8) is used to lock the seat cushion frame in the sitting position and an unlocking mechanism (18) is attached to the seat frame to release the lock when the backrest is folded forward from its rear comfort region into a front stowage position when the seat frame is in the rear seat position. The unlocking mechanism has a swivel element (32) attached to the seat frame and a swivel lever (34) attached off-centre to the swivel element. In the front position of the seat frame the swivel element is in a rest position and in the rear seat position of the seat frame is in a function position in which the swivel lever can be actuated to unlock the lock by folding the backrest forward into the stowage position.
