The device has a stack former chamber (2) in which sheets (20) are formed into a stack (21), a stack stop, and a stack separator (4) moving at right angles to stack forming direction on a first cross guide. The stack separator is placed on the top sheet (19) of a stack, and the stack continuous to be build above it. The separator has two finger-shaped elements (16), connected by a cross part, and each with a conical contact section (17). It is moved in vertical direction in a longitudinal guide. The stack stop is moveable in the same direction. The device also has a vibrator (22) for part of the stack, and a Laser counter (12). The top of the former chamber is closed by stack plate.
