An improved control system for a servo steering for a vehicle applies additional steering force to supplement the driver's manual steering force. The control also monitors the driver's reaction as well as the mode of steering control w.r.t. the dynamic situation of the vehicle. If the driver reacts incorrectly, e.g. during onset of skidding, then the control provides an increasing reaction force which gives the driver a clear indication that the manual steering is incorrect and will lead to more instability.
