Forming method for steel sheet billets in presses uses female mold, pressure plate, pressure generators, and actual and characteristic value measuring and comparing devices

A sheet steel billet is placed on a female mold (2) so as to engage with its edge section (BR) on a support surface (5) of a peripheral wall (4). A pressure plate is lowered onto the edge section so that this is held in the gap (8) thus formed by a pressure (F1,2) generated by a power generator (17,18), and a forming force (U) is applied. A characteristic value (VE1,2) of the changes caused in the gap by the forming pressure is measured, and the actual value (P1ist,P2ist) of the pressure applied by the plate is measured. If the characteristic value deviates from a reference value, the actual value is manipulated dependent upon the comparison. The applied pressure is adjusted so that the manipulated value corresponds to a reference value for the pressure. These stages are repeated until completion.
