A machine roller (01) pair has splash rings (06) with piezoresistive or resistive thin film sensors (08) around the whole circumference processed to determine the roller pressure and to give a two state output depending on whether the pressure is within a regular region. Independent claims are included for pressure measurement procedures using the roller unit.
