The device (10) has a fluid chamber (14) for receiving fluid. A reference chamber (16) is separated from the fluid chamber by a rigid wall (12). A pair (20) of piezoresistive sensor elements (22a, 22b) e.g. surface-mounted devices, is arranged adjacent to the wall, and acted upon with a pressure of the fluid. Another pair (28) of piezoresistive sensor elements (29a, 29b) is arranged in the reference chamber, and acted upon by a reference pressure. The pairs of the sensor elements are interconnected such that the pressure of the fluid is determined relative to the reference pressure. An independent claim is also included for a method for determining a pressure of a fluid by a sensor device.
