An X ray medical diagnosis unit has an X ray detector (9) and source (2) with provision for an extended optical source (5) and detector (8) mounted in an X ray transparent positioner (4) to undertake additional fluorescence measurements for lesion (10) location by image fusion in a processor (15) without changing the tissue position. Independent claims are included for equipment using the procedure.
