The device has a rotation device (17) for rotating an X-ray source (21) i.e. X-ray radiator, and an X-ray detector (23) around a rotation center. A translation device (27) is formed such that direction of the X-ray source is displaceable along the X-ray source. The translation device has a component i.e. mechanical support, running tangential to a rotation circle (25) that is described by rotation of the X-ray source around the center. The X-ray source is activated at various translation positions for generating multiple image data sets from which a tomosynthesis diagram is restored. An independent claim is also included for a radiation therapy apparatus comprising a therapeutic radiation source directing a therapeutic treatment beam toward an object to be illuminated.
