Determination of dioxin (I) contamination of combustion residues from gas concentration and temperature measurements involves (a) calibrating plant by assigning (I) concentration of residues, preferably fly and boiler ash, to at least 2 parameters from combustion chamber and boiler temperature, amounts of primary and secondary air and concentration of specified components; and (b) determining actual (I) content from at least 2 actual parameters and the calibration. Determination of the dioxin contamination of combustion residues from gas concentration and temperature measurements in the plant involves (a) calibrating the plant by assigning the dioxin concentration of the residues, preferably the fly and boiler ash, to at least 2 of the following parameters: combustion chamber temperature, boiler temperature, amounts of primary and secondary air and concentration of oxygen, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, hydrogen chloride, nitrogen oxides, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons of molecular weight over 200 amu and optionally chlorine, adsorbable organic halogen compounds, total organic carbon, polychlorinated benzenes, polychlorinated phenols, polychlorinated biphenyls, aliphatic chlorohydrocarbons with 1 or 2 carbon atoms and/or semi- and non-volatile organic halogen compounds; and (b) determining the actual dioxin concentration of the residue using at least 2 of these actual parameters and the calibration. An independent claim is also included for a method of determination of the dioxin contamination of flue gas from combustion plant by the above method.
