The illumination device is arranged in the motor vehicle internal space, e.g. an engine compartment or trunk, or on the side of a flap (2) facing the internal space, and has an electroluminescent coating. The electroluminescent coating is applied by spraying on, sputtering, spreading or by a screen printing technique : Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a motor vehicle with an inventive device (b) and a flap for covering a motor vehicle internal space.
