Production of pressurized nitrogen by low temperature decomposition of air in rectifier system for nitrogen-oxygen removal comprises feeding fraction condensed in sump vaporizer as first return liquid into high pressure column, in which first return liquid forms not more than 20 mol.% of liquid return which is composed of return liquids. Return liquid flows downward in high pressure column. Production of pressurized nitrogen by low temperature decomposition of air in a rectifier system for nitrogen-oxygen removal comprises feeding a fraction condensed in a sump vaporizer (68) as first return liquid (69) into a high pressure column (10), in which the first return liquid forms not more than 20 mol.%, especially not more than 10 mol.% of the liquid return which is composed of a combination of the first and second return liquids. The return liquid flows downward in the high pressure column, especially into a material exchange section arranged directly below the position of the feed for the first return liquid. An independent claim is also included for a device for producing pressurized nitrogen by low temperature decomposition of air in a rectifier system for nitrogen-oxygen removal.
