The method involves measuring the electromagnetic emissions of a printed, populated reference board during continuous operation of the reference board in the near field region using at least one antenna, storing the measured emission spectrum of the reference board, radiating the measured and stored spectrum using the same antenna as a test spectrum to the test board in the near field region while it is operating continuously and checking the functional behavior of the test board under the effect of the test spectrum.
