A method for controlling hydraulic solenoid valves especially in vehicles, e.g. clutch and gearchange control, computes a correction signal which is added to the solenoid signal to enable the selected valve setting to be reached with a minimum of delay. The correction signal is derived from the actual and selected pressure, the inertial delay, the dynamics of the system and is further enhanced by a feedback component. This ensures that any variations due to temperature and other parameters are efficiently corrected for.
