The gasket is for IC engines having a crankcase of materials with different heat expansion. The crankcase has a combustion chamber passage (Hc) and fluid openings. The gasket has two or more metal layers, with full beads (5,6) around the passage formed in one layer (2,4). At least one (8) of the layers is a short layer, which extends from the passage but does not reach the outer edge (30) of the other layer (2,3,4). At least one of the layers next to the short layer has half beads (9,10) next to the outer edge of the short layer. The short layer is a metal sheet of mainly constant thickness. The crankcase consists of a first material of low heat expansion coefficient e.g. aluminum or gray cast iron, and a second material of higher hear expansion coefficient, e.g. magnesium or aluminum.
