The dimmer control (1) has a control lever (4) acting as an operating element used for controlling at least one power module regulating the brightness of a light source, e.g. a light-emitting diode illumination device. The control lever can be tipped into different positions (A,B,C,D,E,F), rotated in opposite directions (G,H) and depressed, for operation of respective switch contacts of a switching device, for controlling a controller allowing separate control of different color channels of the power module, for setting the brightness of each light color emitted by the light source, using the measured time duration for which the control lever is held in each switch position and the subsequent rotation position. The depression of the control lever is used for on-off switching of the dimmer control.
