An extruder has at least one screw and each screw comprises two or more blocks(3) for various processing tasks axially arranged along the screw. The blocks are arranged at an angle to each other and there is no repetition of the angular position of each block along the screw length. Each block(3) along the axis is rotated relative to the previous block so that each block has a different angular position from all other blocks. The angle of rotation of each block relative to the previous block is identical and for 24 blocks is 52.5[deg]. In twin screw extruders the blocks on one screw are offset at 90[deg] to the blocks on the other screw. Blocks are pushed onto the polygonal cross-section screw shaft which prevents rotation relative to the shaft and/or or each other.
