The method involves analyzing an ionic current signal during occurrence of each individual combustion cycle in a combustion chamber (9) of an internal combustion engine (1). A control signal is generated by adjusting an ignition angle of the combustion chamber during subsequent combustion process in the chamber based on the analyzed ionic current signal, for controlling the combustion process. An independent claim is also included for a device for controlling combustion process in an internal combustion engine.
