The method for the referencing of an incremental position measurement during a movement transmission between an actuator and clutch in an automatic transmission in the drive train of a motor vehicle entails determining a reference position of the actuator in dependence upon a torque transmitted from the clutch. A change in the clutch torque during a movement of the actuator is evaluated in order to determine a reference position for the adjusting of the incremental position measurement. An independent claim is included for a device for the referencing of an incremental position measurement during a movement transmission between an actuator and clutch in an automatic transmission in the drive train of a motor vehicle including a control unit to evaluate the torque clutch in order to determine a reference position for the adjusting of the incremental position measurement.
