A board game with a vertical playing field, e.g. for teaching purposes, has different coloured squares each with a cut out window into which a playing piece can be positioned and supported on a narrow ledge. The playing pieces are further secured by magnetic grips between their bases and the ledges. The clear squares are partially transparent as are the playing pieces. The windows have arched tops for optimum access and appearance. The board is secured onto a support base.
