The engine has a cylinder (1) with piston (2) connected to drive rod (3), a system, e.g. a valve (8), to supply air or steam, or a fuel-air mixture, into the space between piston and cylinder head (4), and an ignition system. A second piston (7) connected to the first piston passes through the cylinder head. The connection is via a conical neck (6).
