The heated die (310) and punch (334) are air-tightly closable against the heated sheet metal blank (302) of superplastically formable alloy. Gas pressure is applied on punch side surface of sheet, to form a preform against cavity of die. Gas pressure is then applied from die side surface of preform against profile of punch.
