Chip card reader (1), preferably mounted in a mobile phone, comprises a housing (2) for receipt of the chip card (3), means (4) for reading the card and means (15) for locking the card in the housing. Said locking means can be displaced between a first open and second closed position. The locking means have contact means (24) for connecting to the connection contacts of a printed circuit (14) that includes the chip card reading means. Thus the locking means serve to make or break connection of the power supply to the chip card via the conduction path provided by its contact means.
