P The present invention relates to a new process for the synthesis of hexanitrohexaazaisowurtzitane (HNIW), a compound useful as an energy charge in powders, propellants and explosives. This process comprises a first step for reacting an α, β derivative -dicarbonylated with a primary amine making it possible to form a hexasubstituted derivative of hexaazaisowurtzitane. The NHIW is then directly obtained, in a single reaction step, by nitration of the hexasubstituted derivative of hexaazaisowurtzitane. This process, in only 2 steps of a primary amine, is particularly simple and inexpensive. /P
