The method involves harvesting alfalfa plants or of a part of the plants, and chopping of the plants into pieces of preset length. Dehydration of the plants is performed to obtain almost complete drying of portions of the plants having less weight. The portions of the plants having less weight are classified based on the weight. Dehydration of one portion of the plants having more weight is performed by a drier. An independent claim is also included for an installation for optimal drying of portions of an alfalfa plant.
