The device has a management unit (1) connected to a thermal energy meter (2) and comprising a determination unit (4). The unit (4) determines theoretically consumed energy on a system based on arithmetic mean of positive difference between a reference temperature and an external temperature measured in a determined time period. The management unit compares the energy measured by the meter with the determined theoretical energy. An independent claim is also included for a method for detection of malfunctioning and/or drift of a thermal energy meter.
