The slide has a locking mechanism (10) locking and allowing movement of a movable section relative to a fixed section in locked and unlocked positions. A locking mechanism (11) allows the mechanism (10) to be in unlocked position, when the mechanism (11) is in active position. The mechanism (11) is moved from the active to a rest position by activation of a spring (32) by a user, to allow the mechanism (10) to be in locked position. An independent claim is also included for a seat of a motor vehicle.
