The method involves acquiring data at the level of a welding arc or more near to the welding arc, during welding parts of a motor vehicle. The data is chosen from a group formed by a voltage (U), intensity (I), wire speed (Vf), welding speed (Vs), gas pressure (Pgas) or gas rate (Dgas). The acquired data is processed for deducing a Boolean variable, and welding defect is determined from the Boolean variable. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) an installation for automatically detecting welding defects (B) a welded parts production line.
