PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a method for counting the number of people for a store or the like which counts the number of flows of people in the store, their staying time at the store and the number of the people there, correlates the data thus obtained by the counting with POS data to combine the data with the applications of various in-store merchandising and systematizes itself as the whole.;SOLUTION: A method for counting the number of people and flows of people divides, on a system, a photographed moving image on a screen into adequate zones 2 by means of an image processing means, the moving image being picked up by a means which photographs people who enters and leaves a store A or are staying there, as an moving image, with cameras 1 installed at the entrance and exit B of the store A, on the ceiling above the store shelves C and so on, and counts the number of the people staying in the zones and their staying time there or measures the crowdedness. The data obtained by the method are correlated with a POS system 3 via coordination software, collected and analyzed, and then made to be management strategy information for a shelf-allocation and re-arrangement plan, a personnel deployment plan, a sales plan and increase in sale.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
