PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cause investigation apparatus capable of performing, in the quality management of products, the cause investigation of a phenomenon which occurs in the product by use of a history related to the product stored in a storage medium attached to the product based on a large quantity of data. PSOLUTION: This apparatus comprises a phenomenon information acquisition part acquiring the phenomenon information of an object product 5; a trace information extraction part 8 extracting, from a trace tag 4 attached to the object product 5 and storing the history factor information of the object product 5, the history factor information; and a relevancy determination part 61 determining, based on a correspondence database 71 showing the correspondence between phenomenon information acquired from each product and history factor information read from trace tags attached to the product concerned, whether each of the history factor information of the object product 5 extracted by the trace information extraction part 8 is relevant to the phenomenon information of the object product 5.
