PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an attenuated live vaccine and an inactivated live vaccine for preventing bovine from bovine herpesvirus type 1 (BHV-1). PSOLUTION: The deletion mutant of the bovine herpesvirus type 1 has a deletion in the glycoprotein gE-gene. The mutant may further have a deletion in the thymidine kinase gene and/or the glycoprotein gI-gene, or have an insertion of a heterologous gene. The recombinant nucleic acid comprises the gE-gene or a part thereof. The glycoprotein gE, the peptides based thereon and the complexes of the glycoproteins gE and gI, and the antibodies against them are also provided.
